Overview
The Prize Scheme Rules — referred to as पुरस्कार योजना नियमावली — establish the framework for the Madhya Pradesh Sahitya Academy's annual literary awards. The document defines eligibility criteria, prize categories, nomination and selection procedures, and the standards by which outstanding literary works are recognised.
Prize Categories
The scheme governs two principal award categories:
- अखिल भारतीय पुरस्कार (All-India Awards) — open to distinguished original works in Hindi published anywhere in India during the award year.
- प्रादेशिक पुरस्कार (Regional / State Awards) — recognising outstanding contributions by writers and literary figures within Madhya Pradesh.
Scope of Recognition
The awards honour distinguished original works published during the relevant program year. Genres considered include poetry, fiction, drama, essays, literary criticism, and collected anthologies. The scheme is designed to encourage both established and emerging voices in Hindi literature.
Selection Process
The rules outline a structured selection procedure involving expert panels and jury members drawn from the literary community. Works are evaluated on criteria of originality, literary merit, and contribution to Hindi letters. The annual अलंकरण (Alankaran) ceremony serves as the formal occasion for conferring the awards.
Program Year Reference
Historical records indicate that the prize scheme was active for the program year 2016–17, with awards presented at the Alankaran ceremony held on 15–16 February 2017. The rules document served as the governing instrument for that cycle.
